Day 26 - Katherine Gorge - Kakadu

Jasper: Today we went on a cruise down Katherine Gorge.  It was amazing because we were right there.  We saw waterfalls, sheer cliffs, plants and my favourite - 3 small crocs and 4 big ones (they were freshwater ones).  Then we drove to Mary River Roadhouse at the entrance to Kakadu.  When we got there we were the only ones there, but before we even set up, we went to a waterhole called Rock Hole.  It was awesome even though there was a croc warning sign.  Em and I wore snorkels while Kate and Steve and Mads went on noodles.  There was a waterfall and when you got to the middle of the waterhole, it was pitch black.  Then we had dinner of steak from a wood fired barby.  While we had dinner, there was a controlled bush fire burning all around us.

Kate: A river cruise through Katherine Gorge.  One of those things you always imagine doing one day and here I was.  Lived up to every expectation.  Real pinch yourself stuff!!!!  Then just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, we arrive into Kakadu National Park, and find (with difficulty) an unsigned waterhole recommended by a ranger.  Absolutely sublime.  Everything I imagined swiming in a waterhole with waterfall tumbling in would be - and to top it off, the water was warm!!!! Floating around on noodles.  Pure magic - we had it all to ourselves.

The perfect ending to a perfect day
